WC SAPS seize 186 illegal firearms over the last five weeks
More than 180 guns have been seized over the last five weeks.
The police's Novela Potelwa said as the investigation continued, more arrests could be made.
Officials recovered the ammunition that was left unattended.
Several killings have over the last four days occurred in areas including Mitchells Plain, Kraaifontein, Khayelitsha and Delft.
Two people were arrested this week during a stop-and-search operation in Khayelitsha; two more were arrested upon further investigation.
Firearms, including a hunting rifle and a shotgun, large quantities of ammunition, cartridges and police uniform items were found in a house in Kuyasa in Khayelitsha.
When police confiscate weapons, they're first stored before being shipped to Gauteng to be crushed and melted down.
Authorities have reiterated that those found in possession of the above by 1 February will face charges.
The arrest comes after police responded to a hijacking and kidnapping earlier this week, it's understood the driver was allegedly kept hostage at the house and was released a few hours later by the suspects.
Authorities during a multidisciplinary operation were following up on an armed robbery that occurred along the N14 Highway near Kathu.
Gauteng Police Commissioner Elias Mawela applauded officers for recovering these firearms.
Anti-crime operation Okae Molao was again rolled out in parts of Gauteng over the weekend with areas including Thokoza particularly targeted.
In Ekurhuleni, a police operation on Friday led members to a house in Alberton where a suspect was arrested after being found in possession of three unlicensed pistols with live ammunition.
Officers say six illegal firearms and ammunition were confiscated in the Nyanga cluster alone.
The gun amnesty period began in December and will last until May.
The firearms rights and advocacy group’s response comes after the police ministry’s announcement that the Firearms Amnesty period, which started this month, is on track.
The firearms amnesty commenced on the 1 December and will run until the end of May next year.
