The group faces 22 charges including murder, attempted murder, and racketeering.
The witness, who cannot be named by order of the court, said Bhekukwazi Mdweshu would then use the information to organise their assassinations.
Sanele Thusi shot dead a 30-year-old woman at the hostel in 2018.
The trial was due to begin on Monday but was postponed after it emerged that three of the accused hadn't paid their advocate.
The eight men face charges of murder, attempted murder, extortion for their alleged creation of a syndicate and also illegally collecting money from community members.
The trial begins at the Pietermaritzburg High Court on Monday.
With the Moerane Commission report on KZN political killings expected to be released on Thursday, an activist from the infamous Glebelands remains a hotspot for these killings.
The commission investigated murders that have taken place in KwaZulu-Natal since 2011 including deaths at the notorious Glebelands hostel.
Siyabonga Faku also faces charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
The pair is among a group of suspects linked to the Glebelands killings which took place at the hostel between August 2014 and March 2016.
KwaZulu-Natal police say 38-year-old Bongani Mbele remained elusive until he was tracked down in Harding on Tuesday.
He faces murder and attempted murder charges, as well as conspiring to commit murders that took place at the infamous hostel between 2014 and 2016.
The 38-year-old man will join seven others, who failed to make bail last week, also linked to the Glebelands killings.
Groans and mumbling could be heard in the cramped courtroom benches on Thursday morning as Magistrate Siphiwe Hlophe denied bail to five of the seven suspected hitmen.
Glebelands hostel has been the scene of many killings in the last year and one of the most shocking crimes there was two murders which took place within minutes of each other in July.
The suspect was arrested on Sunday during police patrols at the notorious hostel, where he was found in possession of a gun and ammunition.
The man was found in possession of a gun with its serial number erased, five live rounds of ammunition rounds from the firearm and a short knife.
On Sunday, a body was found in the hostel and on Saturday a man was fatally attacked at a tavern.
The residence is believed to be housing several suspected hitmen who’ve been linked to the spate of political killings in KwaZulu-Natal.
