RFA on high alert during anticipated foreign truck drivers' strike
A stay away by foreign drivers is planned for this week but the Road Freight Association (RFA) said that there were no demonstrations on Monday.
The foreign drivers, who do not form part of the industry's bargaining council, plan to pull up their handbrakes this week to protest their continued attacks by locals who want them to be replaced by South Africans.
This follows sporadic protests by truck drivers who are up in arms about foreign nationals being employed.
The group has handed a memorandum of demands to the council in Johannesburg on Tuesday - its major gripe remains the employment of foreign nationals in this country.
A number of trucks were torched across parts of Cape Town. Some local drivers were against the hiring of foreigners.

The All Truck Drivers Foundation claims that foreigners are being given preference because they are willing to be paid less and employers overlook their lack of proper paperwork to work legally in the country.
