CoCT urges union to call off nationwide rail strike
The United National Transport Union and the Federation of Unions in SA are planning a nationwide protest on 26 July.
The global retailer lost more than 60% of its stock value on the JSE last year after CEO Markus Jooste stepped down amid allegations of accounting irregularities.
Fedusa met with the public investment corporation on Monday over the Steinhoff meltdown, which has seen the retail giant's share price plummet as much as 90% since CEO Markus Jooste stepped down.
Fedusa also questioned why the company's chief financial officer hasn't resigned following allegations of fraudulent transactions.
Fedusa General Secretary Dennis George says the federation is concerned that the PIC is falling victim to forces opposed to the best interests of pensioners and public servants.
The union is considering forming a new independent labour federation, as a last resort.
Fedusa said many child labourers were either in the agriculture or domestic work sector.
Fedusa says the proposed Youth Wage Subsidy will help fight unemployment in the country.
