Tembisa residents set sights on rebuilding after violent protests
They took to the streets earlier this week to protest over service delivery issues.
Four people died during disruptions sparked by service delivery protests earlier in the week.
Ekurhuleni Mayor Tania Campbell addressed residents at the Mehlareng Stadium in the township on Friday morning.
Gauteng Cooperative Governance MEC Lebogang Maile addressed the community on Wednesday afternoon and vowed to address their complaints, but some residents responded by lighting a fire and demanding to see Campbell.
Gauteng Cogta MEC Lebogang Maile said there is very little the municipality can do about grievances over electricity and water tariff increases.
Xolani Mnisi, who is a member of the Tembisa Community Forum, said that this had left many in the township in the dark as they simply could not afford to buy electricity.
Demonstrations broke out in the East Rand township on Monday, with residents protesting over exorbitant electricity prices.
Residents have been demonstrating over high rates and electricity bills.
