Cosatu dismisses vavi
Cosatu: We will mark our revival with National Congress
Cosatu began its congress in Midrand today where 2,500 delegates will discuss its numerous challenges.
The congress is expected to elect Bheki Ntshalintshali as Zwelinzima Vavi’s replacement.
Delegates spent nearly 10 hours trying to resolve the credentials issue and eventually put it to a vote.
The unions have openly declared their support for a campaign to reinstate Numsa and Zwelinzima Vavi.
Numsa appealed to delegates attending the congress to stand up against those who try to destroy Cosatu.
Earlier today the High Court in Johannesburg ordered the federation to convene the congress in July.
Dlamini says Numsa's claim that the order is a victory for the unions supporting Vavi is false.
Zwelinzima Vavi addressed a council in Salt River in his first public address since his booting from Cosatu.
Patrick Craven yesterday announced his resignation from Cosatu at a special briefing.
Cosatu President Sidumo Dlamini told unions not to interact or work with Zwelinzima Vavi.
Zwelinzima Vavi has condemned the action taken by Cosatu to dismiss him, saying it was unfair and illegal.
Zwelinzima Vavi said his dismissal represented a turning point in South Africa's labour movement.
S'dumo Dlamini has warned that those helping sacked general secretary are violating Cosatu’s code of conduct.
The deputy general secretary on Tuesday said Vavi's decision to boycott meetings had a serious impact.
Cosatu’s Central Executive Committee meeting has voted to dismiss Secretary General Zwelinzima Vavi.
