Dept assures MPs SABC will remain independent
The Dept of Communications says it’s committed to ensuring an independent & accountable SABC.
The Bill has been criticised for giving Faith Muthambi powers to nominate SABC board members.
The EFF says the bill can’t be discussed in Parliament as it is the subject of ongoing litigation.
The advertising of posts and the vetting of candidates delayed the process last year.
Govt says the bill aims to ensure the long-term stability and the sustainability of the SABC.
The party says the only way to challenge the decision to remove three board members is through the courts.
The public broadcaster’s board sacked three non-executive members in March this year.
