People from near and far gathered in the Joburg CBD to witness the demolition of the Bank of Lisbon building on Sunday morning.
Simphiwe Moropane, Mduduzi Ndlovu and Khathutshelo Muedi died as they attempted to douse the flames for three straight days last year.
Sunday marked the demolition of the Bank of Lisbon Building which was deemed structurally unfit following a fire last year which claimed the lives of 3 fire fighters. The new building will be used to house provincial government department.
In 2018 three firefighters died while battling a fire which started on the 23rd floor of the building used by the health department.
Mduduzi Ndlovu, Simphiwe Moropana and Khathutshelo Muedi died in September last year while trying to extinguish the fire which broke out on the 23rd floor of the building.
In September last year, part of the building, which housed several government departments, was engulfed in flames.
