Master plans not helping transform automotive & poultry sectors
While the Automotive Masterplan was signed in 2018, there were still some hindrances concerning policy adaptation.
President Cyril Ramaphosa visited the Tshwane Automotive special economic zone in Silverton on 2 February 2021 for an inspection. During his visit it was also announced that Ford will invest R15.8 billion into South Africa. Ramaphosa said the partnership with Ford would not only create jobs, but also improve the country’s manufacturing and export capacity.
The Competition Commission wants to put an end to motorists being forced to have their in-warranty cars serviced or repaired only at the manufacturer’s approved service dealerships.
Numsa said this was due to a refusal by employers’ organisations to accept a precondition that workers should be back paid should negotiations be prolonged.
