US military says it killed 62 militants in Somalia with air strikes
The military’s Africa Command (Africom) said four strikes were carried out on Saturday, killing 34 militants, and two more on Sunday, which killed 28.
Somalia has been at war since 1991, when clan-based warlords overthrew dictator Siad Barre and then turned on each other.
The al-Qaeda-linked Islamist militant group has lost much of the territory it once controlled in Somalia, including the capital Mogadishu.
The AU troops have clawed back most of Somalia's main towns and cities from Al-Shabaab since they helped drive the Al Qaeda-linked insurgents out of Mogadishu in 2010.
Ali Abdi, who was 25 and married with two sons, also worked for a London-based television station.
African Union peacekeepers launched an attack against Islamist militants and killed 14 people.
