Africa CDC says countries must act fast to prepare for COVID-19 vaccines
Governments will be able to make financing arrangements through the African Export-Import Bank that could allow for instalment payments over a five-year period.
Over the past month there has been a six percent average increase in weekly COVID-19 cases across the continent, and nine countries have test positivity rates higher than 10%.
The WHO said 76 rich nations were now committed to joining a global COVID-19 vaccine allocation plan co-led by the WHO that aims to help buy and fairly distribute the shots.
The continent-wide daily average was 10,300 last week, down from 11,000 the week before.
The Africa CDC, along with the Jack Ma Foundation, supplied the tests, according to the head of the Africa disease control body.
The African Union said it was talking to Madagascar’s embassy in Addis Ababa about the safety and efficacy of the substance known as Covid-Organics.
Test kits to detect the virus were already sent to countries like Iran, Cameroon, Egypt, and Uganda.
The centre said it had trained 15 African countries that were most at risk and they would be ready to screen for the virus from Monday.
