BUSANI NGCAWENI: To be young, willing but black
Busani Ngcaweni writes passionately about the challenges faced by young black South Africans, 25 years after the demise of Apartheid.
Ramaphosa says because this year's commemoration coincides with 25 years of freedom it takes place under the theme “25 years of democracy: a celebration of youth activism”.
The comments come as South African marks 43 years since young people protested in Soweto against Afrikaans being used as a primary medium of instruction in schools.
The 43rd anniversary of the 1976 massacre will be commemorated in Gauteng by the two main political parties.
Provincial dignitaries including Free State premier Ace Magashule are expected to attend the event.
The DA’s Anneke Scheepers says the youth of today have the same responsibility as the youth of 1976.
The National Youth Development Agency started the #YouthMonth celebration with a wreath laying ceremony at the Hector Pieterson Memorial in Soweto where they remembered the class of 1976.
Hector Pieterson's sister says the DA is the only party to take South Africa forward.
