The Tony award-winning play `A Doll’s House, Part 2' which looks at the pros and cons of marriage has come to the Baxter Studio after successful runs on Broadway and London's West End.

Written by Lucas Hnath, it's a commentary on Henrik Ibsen 'A Doll's House' which premiered in 1879.

Amato, who is perhaps best known to TV audiences for her roles in Isidingo and Binnelanders, says they've had a riotous response from Cape Town audiences.

"It has wonderfully fresh, contemporary, alive, hilarious, witty debate about what relationships are now and then. And actually, how little has changed really... in terms of the roles we play and the roles we choose to play, we're still negotiating what marriage is."

She says there's nothing old-fashioned about the dramedy, "it's a very insightful piece" with lots of surprises.

Asked how she feels about working with well-known South African actor Zane Meas, Amato says he's perfect for the role of her husband Torvald.

"He is magnificent. We get on like a house on fire and we have fantastic chemistry. We really, really enjoy working together and we have some explosive scenes. So you can’t miss it! It’s really quite delicious."

'A Doll's House, Part 2' runs at the Baxter Studio until 10 May with performances at 8pm, and Saturday matinees at 3pm. Tickets are available at Webtickets.
