Tembisa Hospital activated contingency plans following a fire over the weekend

JOHANNESBURG - Tembisa Hospital has activated its contingency plans following a fire at its Accident and Emergency Unit over the weekend.
Despite the unit being closed, a team of healthcare professionals is still treating walk-in patients in a dedicated ward.
Gauteng health MEC Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko provided an update during a media briefing at the hospital yesterday.

MEC Nkomo-Ralehoko said the hospital is now operating under its business continuity plan a contingency designed to ensure uninterrupted service in emergencies such as fires.
The MEC said a dedicated team is assessing walk-in patients and deciding whether to admit them or refer them to other facilities.
"Anybody that has been stabbed just across the street we will not take that person and say go to another place. We will still see that person,” said Nkomo-Ralehoko.
Nkomo-ralehoko also added that while the accident and emergency unit remain closed until further notice, all other services at the hospital continue as normal.
