DURBAN - The State in the murder case of the traditional leader linked to the killing of a Democratic Alliance (DA) councillor in KwaZulu-Natal is leading evidence in a bail application of the accused.

Simphiwe Eric Zuma, an Inkosi from Impendle outside Pietermaritzburg, was arrested by the police's political task team investigating politically motivated murders in July.

Zuma has been linked with the murder of Induna Zuma, a relative of his, and that of DA Umngeni Local Municipality chief whip, Nhlalayenza Ndlovu.

Ndlovu was killed in full view of his wife, Pretty, and their children in December 2023.

The Howick Magistrate's Court will on Monday hear the bail application of Simphiwe Eric Zuma, who is accused of killing DA councillor Nhlalayenzan Ndlovu.

Ndlovu as brutally killed in front of his family in the Empophomeni area of KZN almost two years ago.

Zuma, who is believed to be the mastermind behind the killing, is at the same time out on a R25,000 bail in another murder case of a traditional leader, Qalokunye Zuma.

The State in the matter is opposing Zuma's bail and will argue that he should be kept behind bars. State prosecutor Adv Lawrence Gcaba will lead evidence in the matter.

Last week, the prosecution revealed that Zuma also has a relationship with the man accused of killing African National Congress (ANC) councillor Sindiso Magaqa, Stanley Sikhosana.
