Refurbishing a transit camp in Angola will be South Africa's next project
Gayton Mckenzie said when completed, the building will house abused women.
JOHANNESBURG - Sports, arts and culture minister Gayton Mckenzie has said that South Africa will be refurbishing a building in Angola that served as a transit camp during the civil war - for displaced people including South Africans.
Mckenzie said when completed the building will house abused women.
He made the comments at the Freedom Park Heritage site on Sunday at an event commemorating the battle of Cuito Cuanavale that happened in Southern Angola between 1987 and 1988.
Mckenzie said the confrontations played a role in Namibia's independence and the fall of apartheid.
"Not only did you give us a place to stay while we were transitting but you also made sure that the women that was in the group get a special case where they can sleep that’s more safer and more secure," said Mckenzie.
