JOHANNESBURG - Questions are mounting over the callous murder of KwaZulu-Natal paediatrician, Doctor Zamambo Mkhize.

The 39-year-old was found stuffed into the boot of her car with a gunshot wound to her head and abrasions on her face on Friday, in Imbali township, near KZN’s capital of Pietermaritzburg.

Doctor Mkhize, a paediatrician at Harry Gwala Regional Hospital in Edendale, left work early on Friday to take one of her kids to hospital.

Sources claim she left work around 2 pm, but she never arrived at her home.

That evening her body was discovered in the boot of her abandoned VW Polo in the township of Imbali.

Police spokesperson, Robert Netshiunda: "Police responded to the scene and found the body of a woman with what looked like assault marks and a gunshot wound. The suspects are unknown at this stage and the motive of the killing has not yet been established, although robbery could not be ruled out."

Residents from Imbali township have expressed shock over the manner in which Mkhize was murdered, some claiming it was not an ordinary hijacking.
