MEC Chiloane said that the suspension of the headmistress at the Pretoria Girls' High, Phillipa Erasmus, would be for three months pending the outcome of an investigation into the allegations of racism.
Erasmus was appointed in 2018 after previous incidents of racism at the school.
At the same time, members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and the African National Congress (ANC) were leading separate demonstrations at the school's entrance, with the EFF carrying posters with the words "Racism has no place at Pretoria High for Girls".
In addition to the heavy police presence, the school has also acquired the services of private security guards.
