CAPE TOWN - The Cape Town community of Nyanga remains tense following a taxi-related conflict.

On Tuesday morning, one person was shot dead and at least seven were wounded in a shooting near the local taxi rank.

Several people are being questioned as part of a police investigation.

Police have yet to confirm any arrests, but officers have confiscated 13 rifles and seven handguns.

Western Cape Police Commissioner Thembisile Patekile said that the warring groups were from the same taxi organisation.

"We have taken 17 people, who will be taken for questioning. They belong to certain security companies. They are not from here, they are from other provinces, so we are looking into that, how they landed up here."

Police have deployed more officers to the area and other hotspots, while the attack is also being investigated by the provincial taxi task team.

The shooting left scores of commuters stranded on Tuesday morning.
