JOHANNESBURG - The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party says it will take to the street and protest the arrival of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky when he comes to South Africa.
Zelensky is expected to arrive in Pretoria next week on a State visit.
At a media briefing in Sandton on Friday, the MK Party criticised the government for extending an invite to someone it calls a “puppet president”.
Over the past three years, Zelensky has been leading his nation in a bloody fight against the invasion of Russia that has killed thousands of people.
The MK Party’s secretary general, Floyd Shivambu, says Zelensky’s imminent visit goes against the country’s non-aligned stance in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
“And we will stage a protest against the visit of Zelensky to South Africa, and we would not want him to come because he has been a puppet to the North Atlantic Treaty of Organisation (NATO) led militarism, which sought to destabilise Eastern Europe and the entire world through an unjust and unfair expansion of NATO.”
The uMkhonto WeSizwe Party said it will protest the visit of Ukrain President Volodymyr Zelensky to South Africa.
