JOHANNESBURG - Legendary actor Don Mlangeni Nawa has been hailed for his role in shaping the industry as tributes pour in following news of his death.
In a statement, the family said the 65-year-old actor died on Wednesday.
The legendary thespian, who has been on South African screens for many years, was 65 at the time of his passing.
Soweto-born thespian Nawa, born in 1959, was an unforgettable actor who first graced the world of theatre before going on screen.
His earliest work as a loanshark, known as Laqhasha on Sgudi Snaysi in the 1980s sitcom, was a character that many loved.
He went on to become a household name for many more years.
The renowned actor’s contributions to the world of film in South Africa did not just end with his renowned role as Bra Zeb Matabane on Isidingo.
He also featured on Uzalo, Abomama. His latest roles were in The River to Ishaka Ilembe before his death.
Fellow actor, who played Zeb’s son on Isidingo, Tshepo Maseko, shares his memories of the actor.
“But I mean, we spoke about everything, about how to look after money, how to invest, how to look after his craft, how we should never take drugs, how we should take his craft very seriously, how we should try and humanise every single character."
The Nawa family said they would give a further update on the actor’s memorial service and funeral details in due course.
