JOHANNESBURG -  Kwazulu-Natal Premier Thami Ntuli has called on police to thoroughly investigate the mass killing of a family in Hlokozi.

The seven family members died on the scene when gunmen targeted them inside their family home on Wednesday night.

Police said that some of the victims were shot in the head.

The premier alongside police top brass and traditional leaders visited the family home.

A number of community members in the rural Hlokozi area, held a prayer for the bereaved Khambule family.  

Not only has the incident created fear, but it has also left many with questions.

Ntuli called for swift action from law enforcement agencies.  

"No matter what the reason or the cause might be this is a behaviour is of a criminal, of which police have a duty to arrest a person who behaves like this in a community, to remove a person who behaves like this in the community who shoots and kills children, innocent souls."

Police said that a team has now been deployed to search for the suspects and to also investigate the motive behind the incident.
