JOHANNESBURG - The Katlehong People’s Taxi Association wants to merge with a rival group to end ongoing tensions, following the murder of a taxi owner.
The Association is calling on government to help in effecting the merger with the Zonkizizwe Association, after years of conflict.
This week, a woman affiliated to the Katlehong Association was shot and killed in Buhle Park, Germiston.
A member of the Katlehong Peoples Taxi Association says the Zonkizizwe drivers formed as a breakaway from their group.
He says they are fights over routes-often result in the death of their members.
He says in the past, they have asked the former members to return so they can work in peace; however, those calls have been unsuccessful.
"We have been asking for our former members to return for over ten years. But after negotiations with the people who do accept to return, they are found out and shot and killed."
He says they are waving a white flag and no longer want to see bloodshed.
