IN PICS: A night of numbers | Results of 2024 elections officially declared
After four days of feverish work by the IEC, with threats of disruption thrown in the mix, the results of the 2024 elections, declared free and fair, are out. Here is a snapshot of the moments results were declared.

JOHANNESBURG - The 2024 elections have officially been declared free and fair, with political parties holding their breath as results were announced on Sunday night.
In the National Assembly, the African National Congress (ANC) now holds 159 seats, down from 230. The Democratic Alliance (DA) saw an increase from 84 to 87 seats. The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) had their seats decreased from 44 to 39. And newcomers the uMkhonto weSizwe Party officially secured 58 seats.
According to the latest Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) results dashboard, ANC garnered a total of 40.19% support with 6,458,988 votes, followed by the DA with 21.80%, translating to 3,502,863 votes. The MK Party bagged 14.59% support, with a total of 2,344,096 votes.
