IEC reveals an increase in the voters roll

JOHANNESBURG - The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) has revealed an increase in the voters roll, with 27.7 million people registered for the polls.
The IEC gave an update on recent developments related to the elections, as the country readies for the May vote.
After its second registration drive last month, 27.6 people million had registered.
The commission said the certified voters roll would be made available on Tuesday.
IEC Chief Electoral Officer Sy Mamabolo: "Since the voters roll was first compiled ahead of the 1999 elections, it has shown a steady growth of over 35%, recording an increase of 9.6 million since the 1999 general elections."
