Liam Cova (Liam van der Heyde) is a talented singer and guitarist from Somerset West, starting to make his name in the music industry.

His heartfelt song Kiss These Scars is the result of a mentorship programme he was chosen for through the Cape Town Arts Festival.

It paired him with big-name producer Ebrahim Mallum on the Beyond Busking Project.

'Once the music bug has bitten, it's for life', says Liam, who's focusing more on his music after completing a degree in conservation ecology.

"I found when I was supposed to be studying I just had these beats in my head - I ended up making music on a simple phone app.  At the end of the day I found that through all my fleeting passions through the years, music was one that stayed so I said 'let me give myself a year and see what happens'."

What happened was the muso's first studio session, and the creation of Kiss These Scars.

"Ebrahim and had a song after two sessions in studio. He was an amazing guy and made me feel very comfortable for my first time in studio."

The song was inspired by Liam's girlfriend, who he calls his 'engel' (angel).

"It was inspired by the way she treats me. You always find people along your journey of life but then there's this one person that just accepts you for all your faults, your failings, all your quirks - and that is this person who came to kiss my scars."
