WhatsApp has a new feature: 'View Once'.
The ‘View Once’ feature lets users send photos and videos that can only be viewed once, adding an extra layer of privacy to sensitive content.
When you send a photo or video using ‘View Once’, the recipient can open it only once. After it’s been viewed, it disappears from the chat and can’t be opened again, forwarded, saved, or screenshotted (on most devices).
A small “one-time” icon appears on the media before it’s opened, so the recipient knows it’s a temporary message.
Here's how to use it:
-
Open a chat and select a photo or video to send.
-
Tap the “1” icon next to the send button.
-
Send your message as usual.
Once viewed, the media shows as “opened” in the chat, giving you a clear indication that it’s been seen.
It’s ideal for sending one-time passwords, sensitive documents, or personal moments—while keeping control of your privacy.
However, WhatsApp reminds users to only share with trusted contacts, as screenshots may still be possible on some devices.
