JOHANNESBURG - Four people have died in a shootout between police and armed individuals in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.
The incident occurred on Sparks Road in the hilly residential area of Overport on Wednesday afternoon and is still considered an active crime scene.
It is understood that five suspects were shot at by police, with four declared dead on the scene while the fifth is receiving urgent medical attention.
The ALS Paramedics' Garrith Jamieson: "And a fifth one is being attended to by paramedics. This is an active crime scene and Sparks Road has been closed off in both directions from just after Randles Road until Locksley Drive. So, I would advise all motorists to avoid this area at all costs as it is going to be an active crime scene for quite some time."
