CapeTalk's Pippa Hudson speaks to Charmane Johnston, about the Namaqua Flower Beach Camp which operates for just a few weeks of the year during peak wildflower season.

Listen below:

This is the 14th year this low-impact tented beach camp will be set up in the Namaqua National Park in the Northern Cape.

Johnston explains that it's six to seven hours drive from Cape Town and is accessible in a regular car. She says the spectacle is well worth the journey.

"Although the arid region is sustained by moisture from the Atlantic Ocean throughout the year, the winter rainfall is really what triggers these carpets of wildflowers and it's just incredible to see."

She describes the accommodation:

"We do have 15 tents, they're all ocean-facing among the wildflowers which is really lovely... All the linen, electric blankets are included. Then of course we've got a lovely lounge and dinning area where we have our meals. Obviously your breakfast, your afternoon tea, your three course dinner is included. And you are right by the waves so you can walk on the beach. You can walk among the flowers."

Johnston says this year the camp will be run from 22 August to 14 September. Booking details are on the Chiefs Tented Camps' website.
