Kfm 94.5's EB Inglis discovers some new words.
Listen below:
Have you ever heard a word, phrase or name of something in a movie or TV show but never knew what it meant?
You may have heard this word often, but never took the time to Google it, or you were too embarrassed to ask.
EB can relate and was 'today years old' when he found out what 'grits' meant... he's always heard it on television regarding food.
So, he Googled 'grits' and found that it's a porridge dish made from coarsely ground maize, typically served as a breakfast or brunch item in the American South - basically, it's maize meal or mielie-pap, says EB.
Of course, the Kfm fam shared their 'I was today years old before I knew what this word meant' moments... and here they are:
Serendipity/serendipitous...
It's like a coincidence, but the result is pleasing, happy and desirable.
Snafu...
It's an acronym widely used to stand for the sarcastic expression situation normal but all effed up and is typically used to describe a confused or chaotic state; a mess.
Regie/regisseur...
Usually seen in the credits of Afrikaans productions... It's basically the director of what you're watching.
Yams...
A vegetable typically native to Africa, Asia, and the Americas that is a starchy, edible tuber not related to sweet potatoes, though they're commonly mistaken for them.
And that's that for the new words we learnt with EB.
