DF Malan high school in Bellville to be renamed
The Supreme Court of Appeal ruled in favour of the School Governing Body’s move to change the schools' name.

CAPE TOWN - DF Malan high school in Bellville will begin the process of changing its name to DF Akademia School.
The Supreme Court of Appeal ruled in favour of the School Governing Body’s move to change the schools' name.
The SGB had been in a legal process with a small group of parents since 2020 regarding the SGB’s ability to change the name.
Chairperson of the SGB Ferdi Booysen says changing a school's name is a long process, but they will begin to map out their plan.
Western Cape MPL Khalid Sayed says this name change is a step in the right direction.
"In the spirit of nation building following the brutality of apartheid, we welcome the decision of the Supreme Court of Appeal to rule in favour of the school governing body with regards to the changing of the name of this particular school," said Sayed.
Sayed added as the country reels from its past, he hopes more schools will follow in this direction.
"This is a move in the right direction, I think a well-balanced approach has been taken and we hope that many other school governing bodies will follow suit in this regard," said Sayed.
