CAPE TOWN - A mass shooting at the Mfuleni taxi rank has sent shockwaves across the township.

It's understood that unknown gunmen entered the taxi rank office and opened fire on people sitting inside.

The latest from police is that four people have been killed, and three others injured.

Distraught family members of victims of the mass shooting arrived at the scene on Friday morning.

The area was cordoned off, with crime scene investigators busy combing the area for clues.

EWN spoke to residents staying close to the taxi rank and this is what they had to say.

"I was on my way to the taxi rank when I heard gunshots but I wasn't sure where," one resident said.

"I saw blue lights, the ambulances and there was shooting and I had to go back home because there was no way I could go to work," another explained.

Minibus taxis resumed operations after grinding to a halt earlier in the day.
