CAPE TOWN - A Cape Town police officer linked to a R20 million jewellery heist in Llandudno is in trouble with the law again after he was allegedly busted with drugs in prison.
Police said that Jacobus Groenewald was caught with 200 mandrax tablets at Pollsmoor Prison.
Groenewald was granted bail of R1,000 in the Wynberg Magistrates Court.
However, he'll remain in prison after being denied bail in connection with the Llandudno robbery charge.
Jacobs Groenewald, Bradley Minnaar, Mthuthuzeli Mafanya and Bathandwa Soldati are charged with aggravated robbery after the men allegedly stole jewellery from a Llandudno home in September last year.
All the accused except Groenewald have been granted bail of R3,000 each.
The police officer was caught with a large consignment of drugs in prison last week.
During bail application in the robbery case, Groenewald was painted as an honourable officer who has always played by the book.
