EFF to build a school in the next 5 years

Economic Freedom Fighters president Julius Malema said the school would be for the less privileged. The school will be situated in Alexandra township north of Johannesburg.

Julius Malema has thanked President Cyril Ramaphosa who announced a special remission of sentence to specific categories of sentenced offenders, probationers and parolees. The Justice Minister said that Fees Must Fall activist Kanya Cekeshe also qualifies for parole. Malema thanked Ramaphosa for his decision but said they are "not friends" and the party would not forget what happened in Marikana.

EFF to establish an 'African council'

The EFF's Thembi Msane, who chaired the commission on international relations, says the party must establish an EFF African council, which will include all EFF bodies and have three regional offices.

185 people rescued from Mamelodi floods

Hundreds of New View informal settlement are displaced after floods swept their houses in Mamelodi. Tshwane Emergency Services said they managed to rescue 185 people from the area including a woman and her child who were rescued from an electric pylon. No casualties were recorded.

Joburg Mayor Geoff Makhubo said one of his top priorities would be to root out corruption and malfeasance. Makhubo held a briefing on Thursday morning to outline his vision for the city after clinching the majority of votes cast in the Joburg Council on Wednesday.

2 Joburg factories shut down for flouting labour laws

The Hawks raided a number of factories in Industria in western Johannesburg, with owners accused of flouting labour laws. Immigration officers were also present at the raids to verify the status of employees.
