Lesotho’s Finance Minister Moeketsi Majoro has been nominated to become the next prime minister when Tom Thabane retires. The initial four-party coalition government that came into power following the 2017 elections - led by the now embattled Thabane - collapsed in the National Assembly on Monday. The All Basotho Convention has now agreed to form a new coalition with the opposition Democratic Congress.

After protests, food parcels handed out in Booysens informal settlement
Angry residents of Booysens informal settlement barricaded Eloff Street in the Joburg CBD with burning tyres and rocks for a second day on Wednesday morning. Under a heavy police presence, roads were cleared for motorists. An hour later, acting Gauteng MEC for Social Development Panyaza Lesufi arrived and calmed the situation by handing out food parcels. The informal settlement is home to about 3,000 people.

Joburg mayor launches hand washing campaign
City of Johannesburg Major Geoffery Makhubo launched the Hlapa Matsoho hand-washing campaign at the Mangolongolo informal settlement, Ward 65, on 22 April 2020 to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the city. The campaign is aimed at educating communities and residents of Johannesburg, specifically in informal and depressed communities, about the importance of washing hands with soap.

A metro police officer and security guard were on Monday arrested for the killing a 40-year-old man and for shooting at four children during the third day of the 21-day coronavirus lockdown. The Vosloorus victim's family says justice must be served, and the person who pulled the trigger has to be locked up for what he did.
