Four people died on Monday from a mass shooting after five gunmen stormed the Ngidi homestead in Mfume, just outside Durban.

Police said a manhunt is still underway after four members of the Ngidi family were injured by unknown gunmen in Mfume, on the KZN south coast on Monday.

This after the deceased’s husband, Werner de Jager, appeared before the Amanzimtoti Branch Court for the murder on Monday.

Werner de Jager briefly appeared in court on Monday. He is charged with the 2021 murder which took place in Amanzimtoti, south of Durban.

The accused arrested for the murder of Pastor Liezel de Jager is alleged to be someone known to her family.

Speaking at the launch of the state-of-the-art facility on Friday, President Cyril Ramaphosa told hospital management that they have a duty to protect the R2.7 billion facility, and urged the community to also play its part.

The hospital, which is named after one of the founding leaders of the African National Congress (ANC), Dr Pixley ka Isaka Seme, was officially launched on Friday.

The newly built 500-bed facility is named after one of the late African National Congress (ANC) founders, Dr Pixley ka Isaka Seme who hails from Inanda.
