CAPE TOWN - The Cape Winelands Airport officials say they are satisfied with the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) conducted ahead of the airport's construction.
They’re hoping to have passengers boarding flights there by 2028, from the airport in Durbanville.
The final round of public participation for the project was held on Tuesday, providing interested and affected parties an opportunity to find out more about the airport's expansion plans.
Cape Winelands Airport officials say that as part of the EIA, they had to consider concerns raised by some residents about noise, traffic and pollution.
The environmental assessment practitioner, Paul Slabbert, says he's pleased with the outcomes of the assessment.
"We aim to have addressed everything that we could possibly address and, therefore, we don't regard that our assessment has got any gaps in it and that we are addressing all the requirements. We are obviously dealing with the public and authorities, so authorities are providing us with comment in order to ensure that we address everything."
He says the EIA report and plan have been made public.
