The Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra (CPO) will host a free concert in Grassy Park as part of its mission to be an inclusive and accessible orchestra for all - while bringing classical music to a broader audience.
The symphony, conducted by Liam Burden, takes to the stage on Sunday 8 June at 4pm, at Grassy Park Civic Centre.
Community groups and works such as a suite from District Six, Jerusalema and the Lion King Medley will also delight and entertain the audience.
"We're looking forward to Sunday's performance, the response is overwhelming usually and Grassy Park is a particularly enthusiastic audience... so if you are coming through, please do come early to get yourself a seat."
- David Langford, Orchestra Manager - Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra
"There's something for everyone in this artform, and we'd love to get as many people involved to experience it as possible."
- David Langford, Orchestra Manager - Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra
"It's really important for us and part of our mandate to broaden our audience and make sure that there are so many people who would not have had access to these opportunities... and it's not necessarily part of one's social events calendar - so whether it's through reasons of logistics or just have not done it before, it is really great that through the City of Cape Town we can get out into communities and actually make use of these wonderful facilities as well."
- David Langford, Orchestra Manager - Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra
The Philharmonic Orchestra and its youth orchestra also visit venues like Gardens Commercial High School, Grassy Park High School and more, to provide guidance and exposure to the next generation of music lovers and talent.
