Another VW recall: 253 more Polo Sedans affected by seat belt fault

Volkswagen South Africa has issued a second safety recall for its Polo Sedan, this time affecting 253 vehicles sold since 11 August 2022.

The National Consumer Commission (NCC) confirmed the latest recall is due to a fault in the rear right seat belt, which could also affect the left side.

Both seat belts now require inspection.

The first recall, issued on 17 July 2025, involved 18 vehicles and was related to incorrectly fitted front seat belts due to a manufacturing error.

In the most recent notice, Volkswagen warned that the defect may significantly reduce the seat belts’ effectiveness in a crash, putting passengers at serious risk.

If you own one of the affected vehicles, it’s important to visit an authorised Volkswagen dealership as soon as possible for free safety inspections and repairs.
