DURBAN - The African National Congress (ANC)'s national working committee (NWC) intends to rebuild the party in KwaZulu-Natal from the ground up.

This followed the decision by the party's NWC to disband and reconfigure the provincial executive committees in both KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng last week.

On Tuesday, the party will inaugurate a new provincial task team that will operate under the reconfigured structures.

The KwaZulu-Natal ANC’s electoral setback in 2024’s general elections, where the party lost around 40% of its votes and its majority, is a key factor driving this reconfiguration.

NWC member Mduduzi Manana has emphasised that the party was committed to rebuilding its structures anew.

"The decision of the ANC is that we must build the ANC from scratch, as it is widely reported some of our structures were infiltrated, and so we have to now do a proper assessment of our structures from branch to regional level."

Manana said all party regions in the province would remain intact for now.
