CAPE TOWN - The Elsies River community policing forum (CPF) wants more boots on the ground amid an escalation in gang violence.
Several fatal shooting incidents have been reported in recent weeks.
Earlier this month, 24-year-old Lameese Dammas was shot and killed in Leonsdale.

An emergency meeting was held in the community earlier this week, where attendees agreed that more needed to be done to curb the proliferation of firearms.
The Elsies River CPF said that the escalation in gang violence in the Elsies River precinct was not being prioritised sufficiently.
It's calling for the allocation of LEAP officers and a sustained presence of specialised units like the Anti-Gang Unit.
The CPF said that with a dramatic increase in murder, armed robberies and the targeting of especially e-hailing services, Elsies River had become a red zone that required maximum intervention.
It's inviting residents to become active in helping to fight crime by joining groups like neighbourhood watches in the area.
