JOHANNESBURG - The trial against alleged underworld figures charged with the murder of "steroid king" Brian Wainstein is set to continue on Monday, without the main accused in the matter, Mark Lifman.

He was shot dead in George on Sunday in an apparent assassination.

Lifman had been on trial along with Jerome "Donkie' Booysen and 12 other co-accused, for the murder of  Wainstein and various other crimes related to an alleged criminal enterprise.

Wainstein, who was allegedly the kingpin in a lucrative steroids operation, was shot dead inside his Constantia home in 2017.

A State witness, who can only be identified as Mister X, has testified that Lifman and Booysen plotted Wainstein's murder.

Lifman was reportedly shot dead in the parking lot at Garden Route Mall.

The trial is set to continue in the Western Cape High Court.
