DA: SCA ruling on Tshwane municipality a victory for democracy
The court ruled against the Gauteng government's appeal application of an earlier decision that set aside its actions.
In the matter between the provincial government and the DA, the SCA found that the Pretoria High Court was correct to conclude that the running of Tshwane by an unelected administrator was the antithesis of democratic and accountable government as enshrined in the Constitution.
Chief financial officer, Casper Coetzer, said that the Office of the Chief Justice was facing compulsory budget cuts of R258m in the next financial year and a further cut of R350m in 2023.
Fita had approached the Supreme Court of Appeal after The High Court in Pretoria dismissed its bid to appeal an earlier ruling that upheld the ban.
