'Armageddon of corruption': SIU briefs Scopa on state of Prasa
The committee heard how billions of rands were under investigation, including a R2.3 billion contract for 20 locomotives that were never delivered.
Following a lengthy investigation into the awarding of service providers for COVID-19 essentials, the SIU found there was no wrongdoing on the part of the department in the procurement and delivery of water tanks to schools.
The union was reacting to the Special Investigating Unit report into COVID-19 PPE procurement.
On Friday the SIU revealed that more than R30 billion was spent by the state between April and November 2020, and over R13 billion has been deemed irregular.

This comes after the SIU successfully instituted civil matters in the special tribunal to declare that millions of rands held in bank accounts of 20 companies and entities be forfeited to the state.
The Special Investigating Unit said it approached the court to recoup the legal fees paid to Majavu Incorporated by the SABC when Motsoeneng was fighting a decision to set aside his appointment as COO.
Its legal representative advocate Vincent Maleka said the court must use its discretion against the applicant who has made unjustified strident accusations against investigators at the SIU.
The SIU is seizing documents computers and other evidence at the Klerksdorp premises.
On Tuesday morning the SIU seized documents from the commission’s headquarters in Pretoria. The unit is investigating allegations that grants were siphoned to staff and family.
The SIU on Tuesday seized documents on transactions from the NLC’s head office in Pretoria that could lead investigators to evidence on whether there was any corruption and maladministration at the commission stretching as far back as 2014.
Last month, President Cyril Ramaphosa authorised the SIU to probe allegations of corruption and maladministration at the commission.
On Sunday, the head of the SIU Andy Mothibi along with counterparts at the National Prosecuting Authority and the Hawks gave an update on the push to battled corruption.
The unit was responding to reports that it has made presentations to President Cyril Ramaphosa about its probe into the COVID-19 fraud and wrongdoing.
More than 5,500 Eskom employees have been referred to the utility for disciplinary proceedings for, among other things, not declaring their financial interests or doing business with the entity.
