Tshwane authorities probe cause of Putco bus fire on Moloto Road
Six people were burnt beyond recognition when the bus they were travelling in burst into flames on Friday.
It's understood that the vehicle was on the move when the blaze broke out.
Gauteng Transport MEC Jacob Mamabolo and representatives from the taxi bodies in the province were on the Moloto Road in Pretoria on Tuesday.
The bus was carrying passengers, mostly headed to work near KwaMhlanga.
Gauteng Roads and Transport MEC Jacob Mamabolo said he would ask Putco management some critical questions.
Following the latest fatal crash, Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula will lead a delegation of senior officials to various sections of the road where he’s expected to engage in a number of safety initiatives.
Two people were killed and 39 others were injured when the bus they were travelling in overturned on a stretch of that road.
It's understood that the vehicle was carrying commuters travelling to work from Mpumalanga.
Residents are protesting over a lack of services in the area.
It is understood that a Putco bus collided with an SBV security van on Monday resulting in a more than five-hour closure of the road.
Paramedics are on the scene using jaws of life to release passengers still trapped inside the bus.
The infamous Mpumalanga road has seen a high number of crashes & will undergo a R3bn upgrade.
Government has set aside R3.7 billion to rehabilitate the entire 139 km of the Moloto Road.
It is hoped that government will intervene urgently following another deadly accident.
The president has sent his condolences to the families of those killed in a Limpopo bus accident.
The Transport Department says speakers at the ceremony called for decisive action on the road’s safety.
A service is being held for the 30 people killed in the fatal bus crash earlier this week.
Investigators have turned their attention to the roadworthiness of the tipper truck.
Police are on the hunt for the driver of a tipper truck involved in the crash.
