WC's Taiwan informal settlement residents wait on Sisulu's fire assistance plan
Three-hundred-and-fifty homes were gutted, leaving more than 1,000 residents homeless after the fire on New Year's Day.
A New Year’s Day fire razed the homes of 400 Khayelitsha residents on Friday night.
Jermaine Carelse, from the City of Cape Town’s fire and rescue services, said a man was injured in the tragedy.
Families with stationeries, old school bags, or anything children affected by the fire can use are urged to drop them at a nearby Pick n Pay.
One person died and more than 2,300 were displaced after a blaze swept through a section of Town Two on Saturday.
The team of volunteers is working closely with the City of Cape Town’s disaster management and the SA Social Security Agency to assist affected residents.
It's understood the fire, fanned by very strong winds, has destroyed approximately 200 structures, leaving many displaced.
