[WATCH] Trump: I never use racist remarks
Jeff Sessions is out as US attorney general. The news followed a combative news conference in which President Donald Trump repeatedly attacked journalists. CNN...
The Republican president reprised a litany of complaints about the Justice Department and the FBI, attacking both without providing evidence they had treated him and his supporters unfairly.
Jeff Sessions testified before Congress in November 2017 that he “pushed back” against the proposal made by former campaign adviser George Papadopoulos at a 31 March 2016 campaign meeting.
Sessions, in a statement on Friday, said he felt justified in firing Andrew McCabe after the Justice Department’s internal watchdog found he leaked information to reporters and misled investigators about his actions.
Sessions has previously told Congress he was unaware of any Trump campaign contacts with Russia, leading Democrats on Tuesday to accuse him of lying under oath.
Donald Trump took a broad swipe at his administration's top law officers in the interview.
Sessions’ announcement did nothing to quell concerns among congressional Democrats, a number of whom called for Sessions to step down.
