Indian runner Gomathi failed dope test after winning Asian title

The 30-year-old tested positive for anabolic steroids after her win at the Asian championships in Doha last month, a spokesman for the Athletics Federation of India told AFP.

    The South African has won two Olympic golds at 800 meters, and has insisted she will not take medication to comply with new IAAF rules governing testosterone levels in women athletes that went into effect on 8 May.

    The 24-year-old is one of several star female athletes affected by an International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) ruling this month that requires women with high levels of testosterone to take medication to suppress it.

    Kenya drops two female sprinters over testosterone levels

    The decision to leave Kenya's 100m and 200m champion Maximilla Imali and 400m runner Evangeline Makena off the team comes after South Africa's Caster Semenya lost a court challenge against plans to force some women to regulate their testosterone levels.
