Mathabatha steps into third term as ANC Limpopo chair at elective conference
Mathabatha has already indicated his victory would be for a few months as he’s eyeing a senior position in the ANC’s national top structure.
Eyewitness News has seen the short note by Msiza to the conference, where he slams the party for what he's termed political persecution.
ANC members in the coming months will elect provincial leaders as part of the organisation's preparations towards its much-anticipated elective conference in December where new national leadership will be elected.
Danny Msiza is currently out of office due to the party’s step aside resolution, which calls for those facing charges to voluntarily vacate their offices or be summarily suspended.
In a conversation with Eyewitness News, Limpopo ANC secretary Soviet Lekganyane discussed a number of issues, including corruption-accused ANC treasurer Danny Msiza’s decision to step aside, recent violence at party meetings and the looming race for the provincial chairperson position.

The party’s provincial secretary Soviet Lekganyane told Eyewitness News Msiza’s letter was read out by Limpopo ANC chair Stan Mathabatha at a provincial working committee meeting on Wednesday morning.
Its current mayor, Thembi Nkadimeng, was appointed Deputy Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs by President Cyril Ramaphosa at the beginning of the month.
Limpopo ANC treasurer, Danny Msiza, has been charged with fraud, racketeering, corruption and money laundering for his alleged role in the looting of the now-defunct VBS Mutual Bank.
The case of 14 suspects was delayed due to a change of legal representatives by some of the accused.
The state says suspects looted nearly R2.3 billion from VBS coffers and doctored financial statements to cover up insolvency.
The National Prosecuting Authority’s request that the matter be transferred to the Pretoria High Court for a pre-trial conference has been approved by the court.
Eight more people were granted bail ranging from R50,000 to R100,000 by the Palm Ridge Regional Court on Friday.
Collins Chabane municipal manager Tsakani Ngobeni, who allegedly approved the deposit of R120 million with VBS, has been added to the seven previously accused persons that include board members and executives of the bank.
The pair are implicated in the VBS Mutual Bank scandal, but the NEC said they haven’t been charged in two years and should be presumed innocent until found guilty by a court of law.
The MKMVA said that a statement by its members in Limpopo, who condemned the African National Congress’s (ANC) decision to reinstate Florence Radzilani and Danny Msiza, did not reflect its official stance.
"This decision honestly it has shocked us. We are disappointed but we are ready for those engagements."
After the African National Congress's national executive council over the weekend, ANC secretary-general Ace Magashule said during a media briefing on Wednesday that the NEC decided its Limpopo treasurer-general Danny Msiza and provincial party chair Florence Radzilani should be reinstated with immediate effect after being suspended for over two years.
