The prosecution in the trial of alleged underworld gang boss, Nafiz Modack, continued to cast doubt on Monday on the testimony of IPID's deputy provincial head for the Western Cape, Mario September.

September is testifying as a witness for Modack's defence, relating to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate's (IPID) investigation into the 2020 murder of top cop Charl Kinnear.

Modack, who is on trial with 14 others, faces 122 charges, including the murder of Kinnear.

State prosecutor Greg Wolmarans continued to grill September about IPID's culpable homicide probe into the possible involvement of police in the assassination.

September told the court he was informed by a Correctional Services officer at Goodwood Prison that two inmates could help in the investigation.

September said the inmates identified the shooter in the Kinnear murder as a member of alleged underworld kingpin Ralph Stanfield's 28s gang.

Wolmarans questioned September about meeting the inmates, Modack and co-accused Zane Kilian, multiple times at Goodwood Prison.

Wolmarans said: "I am going to argue, one day if I have to, that your approach to your so-called investigation is one of arrogance. You do as you please under the umbrella that you are seized with a docket of culpable homicide".

The trial continues.
